Shareef Clayton | Trumpeter

ShareefShareef Clayton, a trumpeter and vocalist , is a native of Miami, Florida. Clayton started out as a youngster, graduating from the prestigious New World School of the Arts. From that point on, his career flourished as he performed with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Melton Mustafa, Luis Miguel, Milo Z, Bobby Sanabria, David Sanchez, Candido, Cecil Bridgewater, and many more.

Although he was heavily influenced by bands such as Earth Wind & Fire, the cultural influence of Miami can still be heard throughout Shareef Clayton’s playing and compositions. From piercing notes to slow jams, the sound and feel of his music is intense, he notes “whatever the crowd wants, I can deliver it and the crowd always gets what they want.”

Being a clinician and having the desire to share his talent with the world, he afforded others the opportunity to hone their craft as he taught master classes at several different schools. While studying at the Manhattan School of Music in New York, he learned advanced-level jazz music theory, improvisation, and composition. His vast repertoire includes New Orleans jazz, bebop, Afro-Cuban, swing, and funk/soul. He is equally well versed in both jazz idioms and classical music literature.

His studying of music goes far beyond his education in the classroom; Shareef Clayton has studied with some of today..'s leading voices in jazz, such as Arturo Sandoval and Melton Mustafa.

He has performed at many famous places including NBC Studios, Walt Disney World, BB King..'s Club & Grill, The Red Lion, Lions Den, Kelly..'s Logan House, Johnny D..'s and the Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. He has opened for Johnny Winters, made appearances on Greek television, and performed on .."Last Call with Carson Daly.." on NBC.

Clayton performs regularly throughout the United States and Europe with a number of jazz, rock, and funk outfits. For several years he has maintained the Shareef Clayton band to offer his music to the world.
